(D.I.V.E.) Opportunities STRTP are currently seeking high energy qualified individuals to be Residential Counselors. Hours and days can vary depending on the need of the program. Our mission is to assist young people in gaining the comprehensive skills necessary to successfully reintegrate into their local school, community and family home. (D.I.V.E.) Opportunities STRTP services young woman ages of 12-17 and NonMinor Dependents (NMDS). with a variety of diagnoses, social-emotional and behavioral needs within a nurturing environment where positive and constructive feedback is integrated into a structured daily schedule. Our Residential Counselors play an integral role in creating this therapeutic environment in which our adolescents can heal, grow, and belong. We are also hiring for On Call Residential Counselors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide general supervision of residents in accordance with the policies of the facility.
  • Seeks to produce growth and development in the residents for whom he/she is directly responsible, by means of group and/or one-on-one counseling.
  • The Residential Counselor will also serve as a positive role model for the residents in our facility.
  • Stimulate the residents’ interest in various activities and programs offered by our facility; also supervise their participation in those activities.
  • Prepares nutritious meals as outlined on the facility menu. Also eats with the residents, supervising general mealtime behavior and manners.
  • Assign and supervise the residents in various daily maintenance task expected of the residents (i.e., cleaning room, making bed, assisting in mealtime setup and cleanup etc.)
  • Administers first aid as required, and administer medication as permitted by the policies of the facility.
  • Transports residents to school and ensures that each resident is properly prepared and arrives on time. Also transports residents to appointments (medical/dental) and outings.
  • Note daily occurrences using an incident report if necessary and leaving notes for the Facility Manager & next counselor on shift.
  • Helps the Program Director and House Manager with program compliance and with Community Care Licensing Expectations.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Direct care staff shall be at least 21 years of age
  • (Preferably) a BA/BS in behavioral science or other related disciplines.
  • Must have High School Diploma or GED Certification with some college coursework in behavioral science.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a residential or camp setting with youth with behavioral or emotional issues.
  • Experience with behavioral intervention preferred.
  • Critical thinking is crucial, especially in crisis situations.
  • Position includes transporting clients in agency vehicle. Valid CA driver’s license with a minimum of 3 years of driving experience; Good driving record and the ability to be insured by the agency insurer. Must have less than 2 points on license.
  • Pass a fingerprinted criminal history background check
  • Pass a physical exam which includes a T.B. test and drug screen

Working Hours: Full Time & Part Time shifts available
