Job Description:
(D.I.V.E.) Opportunities STRTP services young woman ages of 12-17 and Non-Minor Dependents (NMDS). with a variety of diagnosis. Mental Rehabilitation Specialists at (D.I.V.E.) Opportunities STRTP work directly under a licensed professional and are responsible for planning and implementing various non-therapy aspects of mental health services, while also providing concern and encouragement in order to assist and support clients in immediate situations with no attempts made to change the clients’ personality structure.
Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialists are expected to complete the following job responsibilities:
- Work within a DBH funded mental health program to provide integrated and comprehensive services to adolescents and their families.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team comprised of licensed clinicians, nurse practitioners, and psychiatrists to coordinate client care.
- Assists licensed professional staff in assessments, intakes, and other necessary evaluations.
- Under general supervision, assists in the development and implementation of treatment plans including leading activities/ task groups and providing rehabilitation/supportive counseling.
- Assists individuals or groups to recognize and correct home, family or community conditions contributing to mental health or drug/alcohol problems.
- Helps patients obtain solutions to problems of employment, housing and education where these problems are disruptive to patient’s mental health.
- Makes full use of community resources to help with patient rehabilitation and provides social services such as client advocacy.
- Maintain confidentiality of records in accordance with HIPPA standards.
- Document client progress in accordance with DBH/DCFS documentation guidelines.
- Work collaboratively during Team Decision Meetings (TDMs) with the youth, family members, DCFS social workers, DMH providers, DBH providers, and Probation Officers.
- Provides short term crisis intervention in which only the immediate problem is dealt with, and the underlying factors are not addressed.
- Collaborate with school officials to assist with the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Develop youth’s independent living skills to support their transition to AB12, THP+FC, or SILP programs.
- Support Transitional Aged Youth (TAY) with Transitional Independent Living Plans (TILPs), transitional housing applications, and housing interviews.
- Complete all documentation and clinical paperwork within a timely manner.
- Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must pass a fingerprinted criminal history background check.
- Must pass a physical exam which includes a T.B. test and drug screening.
Applicants must also meet one of the options listed under BOTH education AND experience to qualify:
- Education: Must meet one of the following options:
- Option 1: Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed college coursework in behavioral or social science.
- Option 2: Sixty (60) semester (90 quarter units) of completed college coursework, which includes 15 semester (23 quarter) units in behavioral science. A list of coursework or copies of transcripts must be submitted with the application. Applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree in behavioral or social science may list their degree on the application in lieu of providing coursework. Psychiatrist Technician courses and Alcohol and Other Drug Certificate courses completed as part of a vocational program are acceptable and will be evaluated for equivalent units
Experience: Must meet one of the following options:
- Option 1: One (1) year of experience providing mental health or related services, including interviewing and referring clients and performing crisis intervention.
- Option 2: Three (3) years of experience in a behavioral health program or department, which involved working with clients/client contact (i.e., receiving/checking in clients, advocating for clients, scheduling appointments for clients, etc.).
- Option 3: Applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science may qualify with six months’ experience as described in Experience Option 1 OR with completion of a paid, formal internship in the Department of Behavioral Health’s Social Work Intern Program with the County of San Bernardino. Internship experience must be included in the work history section of the application to be considered.
Working Hours: Full-Time/Part-time. 20-40 Hour Week Position. Therapist will maintain a caseload of no more than 12 youth at a time. Therapist will be required to provide intensive mental health rehabilitation services to youth families. (On Call)
